Deze studie analyseert de voorstelling van procedurele eerlijkheid waarmee politieagenten in fictieve tv-programma’s over de politie hun macht uitoefenen. Deze studie gebruikt het relationele model van procedurele rechtvaardigheid om te onderzoeken of en in hoeverre politieagenten in CSI Miami, NCIS, Without a TRace en The Mentalist kansen bieden voor de participatie van burgers en handelen op een betrouwbare, respectvolle en neutrale wijze. De resultaten tonen aan dat fictieve politieagenten in het algemeen eerlijke procedures volgen, maar soms de regels schenden. De auteurs stellen dat de context waarin de schending van de regels plaatsvindt eerder zorg voor een versterking dan een ondermijnen van de positie van politieagenten als maatschappelijke morele agenten.

This study analyzes the depiction of the procedural fairness with which police officers in fictional police shows exercise their authority. This study uses the relational model of procedural justice to examine whether and to what extent police officers in CSI Miami, NCIS, Without a Trace, and The Mentalist provide opportunities for participation for citizens and act in a trustworthy, respectful, and neutral manner. Results show that fictional police officers generally follow fair procedures, but sometimes break the rules. The authors argue that the context in which most cases of rule-breaking occur strengthens, rather than undermines, police officers' position as societal moral agents.
