Dit artikel biedt inzicht in het participerende ontwikkelingsproces van een vragenlijst met zelfrapportage voor adolescenten: the Best Interest of the Child Self-report questionnaire (BIC-S). De BIC-S is gebaseerd op de 'Best Interest of the Child' model. Dit model werkt, rekening houdende met de UN Verdrag van de Rechten van het Kind, met 14 condities omtrent het welzijn van kinderen die enerzijds het welbevinden en anderzijds de ontwikkeling van jongeren positief beïnvloeden. De eerste intentie van de BIC-S is om jongeren in de zorg een stem te geven wat betreft beslissingen in wettelijke en zorggebieden die hun toekomst beïnvloeden. Het ontwikkelingsproces van de BIC-S houdt drie hoofdfases in, nl. exploratie, consultatie en een pilot studie, die in totaal vijf verschillende onderzoeksfases inhouden. Adolescenten die in gesloten residentiële zorgcentra geplaatst zijn, professionals binnen de zorg en universiteitsstudenten werden in het proces betrokken. We ontwikkelden een gedifferentieerd instrument dat jongeren ertoe aanzet om hun kijk op hoofdaspecten van hun huidige en toekomstige leefcondities uit te drukken. De gedigitaliseerde vragenlijst is uniek in zijn begrijpelijkheid, toegankelijkheid en aantrekkingskracht voor jongeren, en genereert een evaluatief profiel van zorgcondities voor de adolescenten zelf. Het artikel toont hoe een theoretisch klinkende vragenlijst geconstrueerd kan worden in overeenstemming met de standaarden die door de adolescenten zelf naar voor werden geschoven. The BIC-S kan dienen als een productief instrument voor assesment en als een gezamelijk beslissingsinstrument in het domein van de jeugdzorg, zowel op microniveau betreffende de individuele behandeling als op mesoniveau betreffende de evaluatie van het groepsprogramma. Verder onderzoek naar het gebruik in de praktijk is aanbevolen. |

This paper provides insight into the participatory development process of a self-report questionnaire for adolescents: the Best Interest of the Child Self-report questionnaire (BIC-S). The BIC-S is based on the ‘Best Interest of the Child’ model. This model articulates, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, 14 childcare conditions promoting the wellbeing and development of young people. The primary intention of the BIC-S is to give young people in care a voice regarding decisions in legal and care areas that impact their future. The development process of the BIC-S consisted of three main phases (exploration, consultation, pilot), containing a total of five different research stages. Adolescents placed in secure residential care, care professionals and university students were involved in the process. We developed a differentiated instrument that enables young people to express their own views on key aspects of their current and future living conditions. The digitized questionnaire is unique in its comprehensiveness, accessibility and attractiveness for young people, and generates an evaluative profile of care conditions from the adolescents themselves. The paper shows how a theoretically sound questionnaire can be constructed to conform to standards set by adolescents themselves. The BIC-S can serve as a productive vehicle for assessment and shared decision-making in the field of youth care – both at the micro level of individual treatment and at the meso level of evaluating group programmes. Further research into its use in practice is recommended. |
