Mensenrechten:Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA)Samenvatting: De paper onderzoekt een op rechten gebaseerde benadering die wordt gebruikt in onderzoek met kinderen. Deze benadering tracht de participatie van kinderen aan te moedigen in elke stage van het onderzoeksproces (planning, controle, evaluatie en het opschrijven van het resultaat) bij kwesties die impact uitoefenen op hun levens. Het op rechten gebaseerde raamwerk is inclusiever en omvattender dan de traditionele benadering die de participatie van kinderen limiteert tot het onderdeel in het onderzoek dat instaat voor de dataverzameling. De traditionele benadering van het onderzoek sluit de perspectieven van kinderen uit in de onderzoeksagenda en bijgevolg ook in de implementatie van de bevindingen in het sociale beleid. Daarnaast bespreekt de paper ook het Palestijnse journaling project als een prototype van transformatie dat gebruik maakt van de op rechten gebaseerde benadering waarbij kinderen de mogelijkheid creëren om het heft in eigen handen te nemen met betrekking tot de agendasetting en het onderzoeksproces. Deze concepten kunnen kinderen als participanten aan het onderzoek transformen naar mede-onderzoekers en schrijvers, en ook de mogelijkheden om kinderen op te nemen in de conceptuele stages van het onderzoeksproces benadrukken. Summary: The paper examines the rights-based approach utilized in research with children. This approach aims to encourage children’s participation in every stage of the research process (planning, monitoring, evaluating, and writing up the results) on issues that impact their lives. The rights-based framework is more inclusive than the traditional approach that limits children’s participation to the data collection segment of the study. The traditional approach of research excludes children’s perspectives in the research agenda and therefore the implementation of the findings in social policy. Alternatively, this paper discusses the Palestinian journaling project as a prototype of transformation utilizing the rights-based approach whereby children create possibility for ownership over the agenda and the process of research. These concepts could transform child research participants from co-researchers to writers, as well as highlight the possibilities of including children at the conceptual stage of the research process. Als zodanig werd een analyse van de inhoud toegepast voor onderzoek van de constitutionele en geamendeerde documenten van de 179 natiestaten die opgelijst en erkend zijn door het ontwikkelingsprogramma van de VN in de Index van de Menselijke Ontwikkeling. Deze analyse brengt zowel kwantitatieve als kwalitatieve data voort, die de ranking beschrijft van elk land en hun optreden in verband met bescherming van kinderen, provisie en participatie zoals uitgeschreven in het IVRK. De bevindingen brengen beter inzicht met zich mee van de houding die de natiestaten opnemen ten aanzien van kinderen als actieve dragers van rechten. Summary: The study of children’s images as delineated in constitutional documents highlights the historical transitions that have occurred within and among countries, as manifested in the Convention of the Rights of the Child. As such, content analysis was administered to examine constitutional and amendment documents of 179 nation-states listed and recognized by the United Nations Development Programme in the Human Developmental Index. This analysis produced quantitative and qualitative data in which it described the ranking of each country and it’s postulation toward children’s protection, provision and participation as outlined by CRC. The findings provide greater understanding of the nation-state posture towards children as active rights bearers.
