Deze paper onderzoekt de theoretische applicaties van het concept van de controle van het sociale systeem, afgeleid van Rotter’s social learning theory om op die manier de publieke participatie van kinderen in Zuid-Afrika te promoten. De paper beschrijft het concept van de sociale systeemcontrole en de strategieën die opvoedkundigen kunnen gebruiken om de publieke participatie van kinderen op individuele en institutionele niveaus te promoten. De paper beargumenteert dat indien kinderen meer macht verkrijgen door trainingsprogramma's over de sociale systeemcontrole, ze op een betere manier hun participatie in de maatschappij kunnen kennen, zoeken en verwoorden. Het is de bedoeling dat het blootstellen van kinderen aan de concepten van de sociale systeemcontrole in het onderwijssysteem kan resulteren in kinderen die werken voor de promotie van kinderrechten op alle sociale vlakken in Zuid-Afrika. Aanwijzingen voor verder onderzoek kunnen de nadruk leggen op de behoefte om de publieke participatie van kinderen te promoten door gebruik te maken van de trainingsprogramma’s van de sociale systeemcontrole. |

The paper explores the theoretical application of the social systems control concept derived from Rotter's social learning theory to the promotion of children's public participation in South Africa. The paper describes social systems control concepts and strategies that educators could use to promote children's public participation at individual and institutional levels. The paper argues that if children were empowered through social systems control training programmes, they would be able to know, seek, and articulate children's public participation. It is envisaged that exposure of children to social systems control concepts in the educational system may result in children working for the promotion of children's rights in all social spheres in South Africa. Directions for future research can focus on the need to promote children's public participation through social systems control training programmes. |
