Deze bespreking probeert de concentratie in het werk van zowel gouvernementele als niet-gouvernementele organisaties over het VN Verdrag inzake de Rechten van het Kind, dat geen deel uitmaakt van de wetgeving in Engeland, in vraag te stellen. Dit staat in sterk contrast met de relatieve afwezigheid van referenties naar het Europese Verdrag inzake de Mensenrechten, dat sinds 2 oktober 2002 wel deel uitmaakt van de Engelse wetgeving door de implementatie van de Human Rights Act 1998. De concentratie van het VN VRK in zowel speeches (Hughes) en begeleiding die voortkomt uit overheidsdepartementen en –agentschappen, de Ondersteuningsdienst en Adviesraad van het Kinder- en Gezinshof, het Departement voor Onderwijs en Vorming, en niet-gouvernementele agentschappen (UNICEF VK) spelen een belangrijke rol maar brengen kritieke vragen mee, zoals waarom er niet evenveel aandacht wordt besteed aan het Europese Verdrag inzake de Mensenrechten. |

This review seeks to question the marked concentration in the work of both government and non-governmental agencies on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is not part of the law in England, as contrasted with the relative absence of reference to the European Convention on Human Rights, which has, since 2 October 2000, been a part of English law through the implementation of the Human Rights Act 1998. The concentration on the UNCRC both in speeches (Hughes) and guidance emanating from government departments and agencies, Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service, Department for Education and Skills, and non-governmental agencies (UNICEF UK) is noteworthy but raises critical questions as to why equal attention is not focused on the European Convention of Human Rights. |
