Deze studie gaat over mishandeling van kinderen vanuit een cultureel en historisch perspectief. Initieel werd kindermishandeling beschouwd als een éénzijdig syndroom ("het mishandelde kind syndroom”). Later werd er meer aandacht besteed aan de context en de omgeving waarin de kindermishandeling plaatsvindt, de culturele beschouwingen en gedragingen, de economische omstandigheden en de politiek. Recentelijk kwam het Verdrag inzake de Rechten van het Kind op als een nieuw paradigma om te kijken naar (de preventie van) kindermishandeling. De auteur presenteert recente empirische bevindingen over de relatie tussen de publieke gezondheid en de kinderrechtenbenadering. |
| Summary: |
This study reflects on child maltreatment from a cultural and a historial perspective. Initially, child maltreatment was considered to be a single syndrome ("the battered child syndrome"). Later, more attention has been devoted to the contexts in which child maltreatment occurs, to cultural beliefs and attitudes, economic circumstances and politics. recently, the Children's Rights Convention appeared as a new paradigm to look at (the prevention of) child maltreatment. The author presents recent empirical findings on the relationship between the public health and the child rights approach. |
