Het doel van dit artikel is om de relatie tussen gelijke kansen en de vroege kindertijd te onderzoeken. Door te verwijzen naar het werk van hedendaagse filosofen zoals Rawls, Sen, Dworkin, Cohen en Roemer, wordt er geijverd voor verschillende mogelijke interpretaties die gebaseerd zijn op politieke discussies over hoe gelijkheid van kansen kan geoperationaliseerd worden. Deze uiteenlopende interpretaties worden op een continuum geplaatst, variërend van ‘Responsibility-oriented Equality of Opportunity (REOp)’ tot ‘Circumstances-oriented Equality of Opportunity (CEOp)’. Verder werd geanalyseerd hoe binnen kinderopvang en voorschools onderwijs een beleid geconstrueerd kan worden in relatie tot bepaalde conceptualisaties. Ook wordt er beweerd dat CEOp een meer plausibel interpretatief framework naar voor schuift om de gelijkheid van kansen te operationaliseren binnen de vroege kindertijd. |

This article aims to explore the relations between equality of opportunity and early childhood. By referring to the work of contemporary philosophers, i.e. Rawls, Sen, Dworkin, Cohen and Roemer, we argue for different possible interpretations, based on political discussions, concerning how to operationalize equality of opportunities. We represent these diverging options on a continuum, ranging from Responsibility-oriented Equality of Opportunity (REOp) and Circumstances-oriented Equality of Opportunity (CEOp). We then analyse how early childhood care and education policies can be constructed in relation to these conceptualisations and argue that the CEOp is a more plausible interpretative framework to operationalize equality of opportunity in early childhood. |
