In Deel I reguleert het Internationaal Verdrag inzake economische, sociale en culturele rechten (IVESCR) de kwestie rond zelfbeschikkingsrecht. Deel II voorziet in algemene beginselen zoals non-discriminatie en gelijkheid; Deel III erkent 9 substantiële economische, sociale en culturele rechten; Deel IV richt het Comité op; en in Deel V komen een aantal algemene bepalingen aan bod. Het gehele Verdrag is van toepassing op kinderen en volwassenen. Kinderen worden echter ook bijzonder vermeld in artikel 10§3 (bescherming tegen exploitatie en kinderarbeid), artikel 12 (recht op gezondheid en reductie van kindersterfte), en artikel 13 (recht op onderwijs). Het IVESCR heeft een periodieke rapportageprocedure en een individuele klachtenprocedure (vastgelegd in het Eerste Aanvullend Protocol, nog niet in werking getreden). |

In its Part I, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) regulates the issue of self-determination. Part II provides general principles such as non-discrimination and equality; Part III recognises 9 substantive economic, social and cultural rights; Part IV establishes the Committee; and Part V mentions some general provisions. The Covenant applies to children and adults alike. Specific reference to children is however made in Article 10§3 (protection against exploitation and child labour), Article 12 (right to health and reduction of child mortality), and Article 13 (right to education). The ICESCR has a periodic reporting procedure and an individual complaints procedure (established in the First Optional Protocol, not yet into force). |
