Het “My Lawyer, My Rights” project is een Europees project en heeft als doel om (1) zich sterk te maken voor de volledige en adequate toepassing van Europees recht en, in het bijzonder, de Europese lidstaten te ondersteunen bij de toepassing van EU-richtlijnen ten aanzien van procedurele rechten van de verdachte of veroordeelde in het strafrecht (EU-richtlijnen betreffende het recht op een eerlijk proces), met speciale aandacht voor de rechten van het kind op toegang tot en bijstand van een advocaat; (2) zich sterk te maken voor de verdere ontwikkeling van nationale systemen die gespecialiseerd zijn in gratis juridische hulp voor kinderen met inachtneming van EU-richtlijnen, het Internationaal Verdrag inzake de Rechten van het Kind (IVRK), de Richtlijnen van het Comité van Ministers van de Raad van Europa over “child-friendly justice’’ en alle andere relevante instrumenten die in dit handboek genoemd worden en EU-lidstaten te helpen deze systemen op te zetten; (3) advocaten te voorzien van informatie en hulpmiddelen bij het vervullen van hun rol, de nodige basistraining en alle andere voorwaarden die nodig zijn om de rechten van de minderjarige verdachte en adequate bijstand in het strafproces te verzekeren. | Summary: |
The "My Lawyer, My Rights" project is a European project that aims to (1) promote the full and adequate application of European law and, in particular, support the European member states in the application of EU directives on procedural rights of the suspect or convicted person in criminal law (EU directives on the right to a fair trial), with special attention to the rights of the child to access and get assistance from a lawyer; (2) to promote the further development of national systems specializing in free legal aid for children in compliance with EU directives, the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (ICRC), the Guidelines of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on child-friendly justice, and all other relevant instruments mentioned in this handbook and helping EU Member States to set up these systems; (3) to provide lawyers with information and tools to fulfill their role, the necessary basic training and all other conditions necessary to ensure the rights of the minor suspect and adequate assistance in the criminal proceedings.
