Statenopvolging kan een groot aantal staatloze personen tot gevolg hebben. Door meer gedetailleerde regels voor Staten te ontwikkelen, bouwt dit Verdrag verder op het Europees Verdrag inzake Nationaliteit. Zo wil het Verdrag proberen dit fenomeen te voorkomen – of toch minstens zoveel mogelijk te verminderen. Het Verdrag verwijst specifiek naar kinderen in artikel 10, waarin het vermijden van staatloosheid bij de geboorte wordt behandeld. |
| Summary: |
State succession can lead to the emergence of a large number of stateless persons. The treaty therefore builds upon the European Convention on Nationality by developing more detailed rules to be applied by States with a view to preventing, or at least reducing to the extent possible, cases of statelessness arising from State succession. The Convention makes a specific reference to children in its Article 10 on avoiding statelessness at birth. |
